The Whore and The Virgin is like my first baby It s a story that I first wrote as an 8th grade class project obviously much less graphic then about the summertime in my neighborhood The fact that this story is my first has a lot to do with why I love it so much and gave it five stars I updated it when I was fifteen after I d experienced a lot of what my city and neighborhood had to offer young boys in the streets, and that s when the harshness and pain and all the bad things in this story came into play A number of people have said that they couldn t even imagine going through some of the things the characters go through, especially at such a young age, and some even called it unbelievable But the truth is these things happen everyday where I live Most of the things in the book have actually happened to me or someone I know, and the characters are all loosely based on real people.I get that not everyone has the ghetto experience, so I can see how this book would be hard to relate to for some people, but if you don t have these experiences then how can you say it s not real It just doesn t make sense to me My only intentions with this story were the same as it was for my assignment, to show my perspective of my community when it is most active I never once thought about how people would interpret the information, nor did I try to make any social statements I certainly didn t try to glorify this lifestyle, but there was no way, being a part of it, that I could try to demean or condemn it either.Regardless of where you come from, I feel there is a relatable aspect for everyone in this story At the core, the story is simply about a young girl that is unsure and afraid of her future She wants to take the right path and make the right decisions but she doesn t know how Sad as it is, and for whatever varying reason that this happens in real life, her parents aren t there to help her with this process and her friends fill that void I can t speak for everyone, but I was personally in that same position, with those same emotions when I was a young teen I d like to thank everyone that has read this story and provided me their feedback, good or bad, positive or negative I realize now that my only intentions for my writing is to share a connection with people and to become rich and famous of course , and I can t express how much I appreciate you all sharing this experience with me Peace.

When I first read chapter one I liked it and saw this book as having potential.Going on to further read I was instantly drawn into this book. The Whore and The Virgin Is a book that shows the struggles that girls normally living in the ghetto have to face from day to day.The Book starts off with us meeting Mel I grew to love Mel..Mel a girl from California goes to spend time with her Aunt and cousins for the summer after she learns that her parents are going to get a divorce Whiles she stays with this family she encounters many problems that are faced everyday by people in society..The will to survive.Mel being a Virgin is not easily welcomed into her cousin yo yo circle of friends being that she is new to everything..from the smoking, the sex ,and the alcohol along with not knowing how to dressall her life she has had thing handed to her or taught how to avoid them but NEVER experienced it all because of her parents. When it comes to this story you would love it because the plot was great. In life we have drug dealers, young girls having sex, getting rape, and finding themselves just trying to face new things which they think is the best way..but no there wrong.when u read this book you would learn that with everything there are consequences and life is not always handed to you on a platter..For teens I recommend that you read this but be warned for the use of negative wordsWe growing up in the ghetto that is all we hearRead this book and learn that in life we all face hard times and difficult situation..this book teaches us that we should talk with someone and never ever hold it in once someone has done wrong to us..

I started reading this one and finished it in a matter of a few hours It was a coming of age book about 15 year old Mel who had to spend a summer in Philly that she ll never forget I kept wanting to turn page after page to find out what was going to happen next I could relate to Mel, very likeable character She is sent to live in a completely different environment than what she s used to and she not only survives, she becomes a much stronger person in the process She goes through good and the bad unfortunately Author did a great job telling us the story and I see from his website there is a part 2 that I definitely want to check out Great book overall Something to read on a day off or vacation day at the beach

After having read the first two chapters, I got a feeling that this book comes with a story that all young teens should read, especially if they are feeling that they want to live it out free as a bird Freedom comes with a price, with it comes responsibility. This is what the author transpires, the real life on the streets, the everyday drama that is united by dreams of succeeding big time without any effort, only the intelligent ones make it through the sea of no ones that roam the streets.I think this is a smart approach to real life experiences, and to the coming of age of adulthood, with the drama of relationships, sex and finding your way through life.

I really enjoyed this book. The Whore and The Virgin by Ceet the author is about a 15 year old girl named Mel, a sheltered girl from California, who is sent to the ghetto of Philadelphia to live with her aunt and cousins Throughout the book Mel s eyes are opened to the reality of living a life in which things are not served to you on a silver platter, and the difficulty of growing up She is exposed to drugs, alcohol and sex for the first time. This was a very quick read for me, and only took about 3 hours to finish The characters in this book were very well written and complex I found myself able to relate to Mel very easily and was truly happy or afraid for her at the appropriate times I will admit that in the beginning of the story I was worried that Mel was changing very quickly and seemed to be easily influenced in order to be accepted, however this notion did not last long for me as I realized that she kept her values and was able to be shocked and horrified by the events going on around her I liked that she was brave enough to stand up for herself even when she was in the minority I liked the character, Yo Yo, Mel s cousin because she was very much the opposite of Mel, however managed to remain likeable throughout most of the book The relationship between Yo Yo and Mel was interesting and realistic I was forced to question their relationship at certain points in the book, which aided me in becoming very invested in their friendship. All of the characters are very complex and majority of them are extremely mysterious We do not get much chance to look into the lives of the others, except for certain situations that do explain why they act the way that they do.The characters in this book that were brought up in the ghetto are doing what they feel they need to in order to survive The antagonists in this book were truly scary and I often got nervous when they were involved in the plot. The one character that I would have liked to see of was Mal He was different than majority of the other male characters and I would have liked to have gotten to know him better. This was, in general, a sad story Mel was very much an observer in this book, as she mentions multiple times throughout It is difficult to let go of the characters that she leaves behind and it it sad that, in reality, these characters know that they will not be able to leave the situation they are currently in.The scenes were well written and set up well in this book There were a few minor typos and spelling errors, but this book was very well written.I really enjoyed this book and will read from this author I am very excited to already have part II of this book, and will start it very soon to find out what happens to the characters that I grew to really like. This book should be read by young people in the same way that I would recommend the books Speak Laurie Halse Anderson and Crank Ellen Hopkins.4 5 stars for this book FTC This book was sent to me by the author These opinions are all my own.

Picture a sheltered fifteen year old girl living in a uptown area of California life being thrown upside down by her yuppie parents divorced and being forced to spend her summer in the deep ghettos of Philadelphia until they sort it out and you ve had the basics of what will take place in this novel For one, the shock of the divorce is still fresh on her very young mind and then to be exposed to such a different environment on her own is bound to result in some difficult circumstances Throw into the mix her very raunchy worldly 16 year old cousin and her friends who s always hanging on the block 15 year old Melanie grew up that entire summer and her life going back to the suburbs will never be the same.I enjoyed this book from beginning to end The authors vivid description of the environment and events place the reader fully in the story and you are left with the feeling that you know the characters personally Ceet effectively explore the Theme of Family and Family relation, teenage rebellion and coming of age in the ghetto This book is by no means a gritty, gangster showcase of drugs and gangs in the streets it does however highlight the role of young women in these societies and how their fate are decided even from the moment they were born its like, a girl like me, all i have is this neighborhood, and all i m ever gone have is this neighborhood you gone go to college and become something and do something good with your life, but all i m ever gone do is what i m doing now, and i m okay with that Yo Yo to Melanie after the incident.I like the author style of writing he allows the protagonist to immerse herself in her surrounding and observe others behavior in a such a way that you do not feel as if you are missing anything in the moment The only problem I had throughout the novel was when Ceet decided to give Yo Yo a perspective I was thrown off since the entire book up to that point was being narrated from Melanie s POV.I good read definitely worth reading.

I received a free ecopy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review The Whore and The Virgin was a very powerful story The book centers around Melanie a young girl from California When her parents decide to divorce she is sent to stay with her mother s family in Philadelphia Philadelphia is whole new world for Melanie who is used to a sheltered way of life Up until now, Melanie s parents have always been there to protect her from any hardships that may come her way From her very first day in Philadelphia her life changes and not necessarily for the better She s exposed to drugs, hard drinking, sex, violencethe list goes on and on You can t help but root for this girl Throughout it all she rolls with the punches and still manages to hold on to her sense of self No matter what is thrown at her Yolanda, Melanie s cousin, is a hardened girl from the streets In the beginning you can t tell whether she s going to be the hero in the story or the villain but you can t help but admire her strength I ended up caring just as much, if not , for Yolanda as I did for Melanie This poor girl has never known any other way of life but it s built her up into the person that she is She s hard and cold on the outside but if you dig deep enough and break down those walls, she s just a normal 16 year old girl underneath A young girl who has seen and experienced way than she should have Right up to the end of this book, I wasn t sure how I felt about it It introduced me to a way of life that I m thankful to say, I ve never had to experience before As a mother, it touched me in ways that I can t explain I ended up really liking this story and I m glad I read it Ceet the Author has a true talent for putting you right into the middle of the story and really getting your feelings invested in the characters I look forward to reading from this author.

Change to make different in some particular As we go through life, we are going to have to experience change Some change is for the better and some change not so much, but the one thing we can count on is change is going to come How you accept it is going to be the difference between living a happy or an unhappy life, the choice is yours.Melanie Cottman is about to experience major change in her life due to the impending divorce of her parents So that Melanie s parents can take care of adult business, Melanie s mother is taking her to stay with her aunt and cousins in Philadelphia for the summer For a fifteen year old a vacation with the cousins should be a walk in the park but Melanie is from California and she is getting ready to enter into an entirely different world than she is accustomed to In order to make the transition easier Melanie s sixteen year old cousin Yolanda agrees to let her tag along with her and her crew, but little does Melanie know her experiences over this particular summer will change her life forever Will Melanie be able to understand and keep up with this new lifestyle or will she be left by the curb to fend for herself The Whore and The Virgin is the type of book that catches your attention first by the title, that makes you want to see what is behind it Secondly, once you begin reading this story you start to understand the title and you want to see how this all plays out Ceet The Author paints a clear picture of what we think is going on in the book, but at some point we have to figure out who is playing what role The story is appealing and keeps you interested so that you can see if what you think is going on is really what is happening I like this story and this author and I look forward to reading of his work in the future.

It s kind of scary how different the rule of survival in different social circle you live in The behavioral, their lifestyle, and even how they perceive the world is different. The hero of this book was only a fifteen years of age, and lived in a nice stable home until the divorce of her parents Then she s exposed to the bold, and wilder urban side of the east coast.Throughout the story, you can see the changes she gain from adapting to the social group her cousin hang out with Of course she went through the teenage rebellion phase, though quite a lot of it i would not advice for others to follow She s a good exemplar of peer pressure problem within teenagers, which rooted from the unstableness of family. In some scenario, i sympathised for hero going through hard times in her youth In others, i absolutely detest it She was and still is a naive young girl, who gain confidence of the wrong side through her east coast experience.I can see what the author want to built for the story from the pacing and the changes of the characters, and i expected what the climax would be like What was unexpected was the ending. Now, there may be a teenage girl, out there that could get hold of those chemical items for her use But i didn t really believe it, it was like soap opera kind of ending For me, the title didn t really fit the story as it didn t clarify who s the whore and who s the virgin Unless it s some kind of metaphor for society perspective for women sexuality, it ll be hard to interpret.Certainly eye opening, and a decent self published book Thank you Ceet for inviting me to review this book.
